The Snowdogs also have their own pups! A central part of the main Ashford trail will be our fantastic schools programme, featuring Snowpups decorated by local children.

These playful pups will allow schools and community groups to bring the Snowdog story to life to help local children explore some of life’s biggest lessons in a fun and accessible way.

The scheme will be led by professionals from Pilgrims Hospices and is kindly sponsored by Kingsford Solicitors. Each of the 17 schools taking part will receive their own Snowpup sculpture that’s ready to decorate, plus a full Education Resource Pack that is linked to the national curriculum. The pack puts creativity at the heart of its programme of study and will complement key stage (1-2) teaching for numerous subjects including: English, Citizenship & PSHE and ICT.

The Snowpups will be decorated by the children during the summer term, then exhibited in cultural venues as part of the main trail in autumn 2018. Once the trail has drawn to a close, the colourful Snowpup sculptures will be returned for their creators to treasure at the schools or clubs; a keepsake for years to come.

Sparky and friends

The beauty of the story of the Snowman and the Snowdog is that this is a charming tale with a message for anyone coping with the loss of a friend or loved one: be this a pet, family member or school friend. The schools programme will explore some of these themes, which so many children face.

As part of the programme, Pilgrims Hospices will also offer each school access to bereavement support for its teachers, through two bespoke bereavement training session for educators. Pilgrims has a 35-year history of delivering a range of support to help families coping with the impact of incurable illness. This includes a range of bereavement services run by its qualified team.
